Home generators in the Village of LaBelle
LaBelle is home to Belle Glade's island green and the hilly Volusia course, with 2015 homes and two villa lines on compact lots. A licensed local installer finds the legal spot for a generator and a fuel plan that lasts.

LaBelle is a golf village first. Belle Glade Championship, 27 holes at 434 Moyer Loop, is officially in the Village of La Belle. Its Tequesta nine has the only island green in The Villages, the Seminole nine has elevated views, and the Calusa nine runs through a nature preserve. The Volusia executive course, nine holes at 128 Moyer Loop, has elevation changes of its own. LaBelle Recreation at 530 Independence Path has an adult pool, bocce, a pavilion and shuffleboard, and Moyer Recreation, the village center in Pine Ridge, is close by.
All of that stops when the power does. When recreation facilities reopen after a storm is a District decision, and the District does not publish their backup power. The part you can plan is home.
After Milton, Florida PSC reports show Sumter County outages at 18,253 accounts on the evening of Oct. 10, 2024, 5,966 on Oct. 12, 294 on Oct. 13 and zero on Oct. 14. For a household without backup, that is three or four days of heat. With a standby generator, it is a normal week: the AC holds, the refrigerator stays cold, the phones charge.
LaBelle sits at the far east edge of District 10, near the Morse Blvd and Moyer Loop junction close to the Lake County line. Pine Ridge and Pine Hills, across that line in Fruitland Park, are next door. Lake County's Milton outages peaked far higher, at 54.35%, a reminder that a few miles can change a storm's toll. Frame and vinyl or block and stucco: LaBelle's 2015 homes and Harlow and Belle Glade Villas
Recent LaBelle listings were built in 2015. Plats were recorded through 2014 and 2015: Unit 183 on Pomegranate Path in July 2014, Unit 185 on Independence Path in September 2014, Harlow Villas in May 2014 and Belle Glade Villas in July 2015. The homes are single-family designer homes, a Sycamore model on Harlow Lane among them, alongside the two villa lines. Lots are compact, about 0.13 to 0.16 acre.
Construction is mixed, which matters for the install. 443 Pomegranate Path is frame with vinyl siding, 387 Harlow Lane is vinyl-sided, and 486 Independence Path is block and stucco with golf and water views. On a frame wall, your installer plans how the transfer switch, conduit and any gas line attach and seal through the siding. On block, the mount is simpler.
Villas need extra care. The District 10 manual bars any vertical structure in a courtyard villa's rear easements and in its dominant or servient side easements. On compact villa lots, those strips can leave little room for a generator that also stays 2 feet from the line and out of street view. Your installer checks the plat at the first visit.
A home built in 2015 is also worth a fresh look at the panel. Your installer confirms the service size and the AC nameplate before suggesting a generator. See the villa guide and sizing.
Your approval path
Wait for the next named storm, and approval, permits and a compact lot's tight spacing all have to be solved in a hurry.
Fit the District 10 rules to a small lot
The August 2026 District 10 manual requires an ARC application for a permanently affixed generator in the rear or side yard, 2 feet off all property lines, hidden from the street, with the exhaust aimed away from neighbors.
Draw the site plan
The plan shows property lines, easements and a pad no larger than necessary. Screening may be no taller than the unit. An above-ground propane tank needs approval and is limited to one tank of 120 gallons or less.
Sumter County permits
LaBelle is in unincorporated Sumter County, so your installer files permits with Sumter County Building Services (verify by address).
Install and inspection
The pad, unit and transfer switch go in, the county inspects, and the installer runs a full test with you.

Get my estimateLaBelle follows the District 10 ARC manual, revised Aug. 12, 2026. On a compact lot, each rule takes up room, so it helps to read them together:
- An application for fixed units. Any generator permanently affixed to the property and home needs ARC approval before work. Portable units fall outside this section.
- Rear or side yard. Never the front.
- 2 feet from every line. Generator and pad both stay 2 feet off all property lines, and the pad is no larger than necessary.
- Not visible from the street. A fence may screen it, no taller than the unit.
- Exhaust away from neighbors. On close side yards, this often decides which way the unit faces.
- Propane. Underground or above ground. An above-ground tank needs approval and is one tank of no more than 120 gallons, out of view and out of easements.
On a narrow side yard, those rules can stack up fast: 2 feet from the line, room for service access, the manufacturer's clearances from windows and vents, and an exhaust direction that does not point at the house next door. Rear corners often work better on LaBelle's lots, especially on golf and water lots where the back is wider.
Your installer's site plan has to show property lines, easements and the proposed work. Approvals last 9 months, with one extension of up to 9 more, and the manual sets no noise limit. Permits follow from Sumter County Building Services. See ARC approval and permits.
A three-week plan at the east edge of District 10
Most Sumter County outages have ended within days. A three-week plan is still worth writing, because outages of that length have happened in Florida, about 26 days in parts of the Panhandle after Michael in 2018, even though nothing predicts that for LaBelle. NERC rates the Florida Peninsula grid at normal risk for supply. The local risk is storm damage to lines.
Three weeks is about 494 run hours. Here is what that takes:
- Fuel. On propane at half load, a 26 kW unit burns 2.06 gallons an hour, about 49 gallons a day. No tank a LaBelle lot can hold covers three weeks of that, so the plan is a buried tank plus refills, or natural gas where a main reaches the home. Propane refills slow after a big storm: during Irma, trucks were the only route into Florida for about seven days.
- Oil. Generac asks for oil changes every 100 hours when running continuously above 85 F, roughly five in three weeks, plus a 30-minute shutdown every 24 hours to check oil and clear the louvers. About 1.9 quarts of 5W-20 per change on 20 to 26 kW units.
- Loads. Running the AC on a schedule and shedding the water heater keeps the unit near half load instead of the 3.63 gallons an hour it burns at full load.
Florida's checklist adds food and water for at least 7 days. Read the maintenance plan for long runs and the grid outlook.

Get my estimateIs there room for a generator on a small LaBelle lot?
Usually, though the spot takes planning. Lots run about 0.13 to 0.16 acre, and the District 10 manual requires the unit in the rear or side yard, 2 feet from property lines, out of street view, with exhaust away from neighbors. Rear corners often work best. Villas also face easement limits. Your installer measures your lot and sketches the legal spot at the free estimate.
Does it matter that my LaBelle home is frame with vinyl siding?
It changes the install details, not whether you can have a generator. On a frame wall, your installer plans how the transfer switch, conduit and any gas line attach and seal through the siding. LaBelle has both frame and vinyl homes and block and stucco homes from 2015, so the site visit confirms which you have.
How many oil changes does a generator need in a long outage?
On a Generac running continuously in Florida heat, about one every 100 hours. A three-week outage is about 494 run hours, roughly five oil changes, with a 30-minute shutdown every 24 hours to check oil. Kohler's 26 kW unit asks for an oil check every 24 hours and a change every 150. Keep oil and filters on hand.
Is LaBelle in Lake County like Pine Ridge?
No. LaBelle is in District 10 in unincorporated Sumter County, at the east edge near the Lake County line. Pine Ridge and Pine Hills next door are in District 11 in the City of Fruitland Park, Lake County. That is why LaBelle permits normally come from Sumter County Building Services and its storm figures use Sumter County records.
What does a generator cost for a LaBelle home?
Typical Florida whole-home installs run about $7,000 to $15,000, according to PowerOutage.us. A compact LaBelle home with one AC system may land toward the lower part of that range, while a buried tank, a long wire run or extra load management adds cost.
