Home generators in Osceola Hills
Osceola Hills, built from 2015 to 2017, includes the premier homes of Soaring Eagle Preserve on lots of about 0.4 acre. Bigger homes and bigger lots change the generator math, and the District 10 manual still sets the spot.

Osceola Hills mixes designer and single-family homes on lots of about 0.12 to 0.23 acres with the premier section Osceola Hills at Soaring Eagle Preserve, which District Government lists separately within District 10. Unit 195 was recorded December 16, 2014, Unit 190 (Soaring Eagle Preserve) February 26, 2015, and Units 194 and 191 later in 2015. Listings run from 2015 on Iron Oak Way to 2017 on Tuscaloosa Path and Congaree Loop.
The premier homes are big. One on Iron Oak Way sits on about 0.42 acres, and one on Oakwood Street has 3,586 square feet on 0.42 acres. Most homes checked are block and stucco or stucco, with vinyl siding on one Island House Path home, and shingle roofs.
A bigger house usually means bigger loads, and often more than one air conditioning system. That is where sizing matters:
- Motor starts. A 5 ton compressor runs at about 5.7 kVA but needs about 35.5 kVA for an instant at start, by the math on a Goodman spec sheet.
- Load management. The Generac 26 kW transfer switch can manage up to four air conditioning loads, and Smart Management Modules can shed other large loads, so a 26 kW unit can sometimes cover a home that looks like it needs more.
- Liquid-cooled units. Some large homes are better served by a bigger unit. The load calculation decides, not the square footage.
Our sizing guide walks through it.
Lake Deaton's east shore and the preserve: placement, view and quiet
A listing places the Soaring Eagle Preserve section along the east shore of Lake Deaton, beside the Soaring Eagle Preserve wildlife area. Premier corner lots and preserve-backed lots appear in listings, and a 0.23 acre lot on Congaree Loop shows how roomy the rest of the village can be. Osceola Hills runs along Morse Boulevard, south of Hillsborough Trail and north of State Road 44.
That setting gives most homes good choices, with a few cautions:
- Preserve and lake views. The rear yard faces the preserve or the water, out of view from the street. The District 10 manual still wants the unit 2 feet from every property line and the exhaust aimed away from neighbors.
- Corner lots. Two street faces mean fewer spots that are hidden from the street. Fence screening no taller than the unit helps.
- Room to work. On a 0.42 acre lot, the installer can usually meet Generac's NFPA 37 clearances of 5 feet from operable windows and doors and 3 feet at the front and ends, with space left for a buried tank.
Noise is not addressed in the District 10 manual. Standby units run a short scheduled exercise you can set for a time that suits you and your neighbors. Our noise guide explains the options.
For a social anchor during a long outage, Osceola Hills has its own neighborhood pool at 4234 McDowell Drive, and Burnsed Recreation, the log cabin style village center at 4019 Deskin Lane, is officially in the Village of Osceola Hills at Lake Deaton.
Your approval path
A large home with no backup gets hot fast in an outage, and every day without power puts the food, the medicine and the house itself at risk.
District 10 ARC application
Under the District 10 manual, a permanently affixed generator needs an application before work. It sits in the rear or side yard, at least 2 feet from all property lines, not visible from the street. Fence screening may be no taller than the unit, and the exhaust points away from neighbors.
Sumter County permits
Osceola Hills is in unincorporated Sumter County; Sumter County Building Services issues the electrical and gas permits after ARC approval.
Install
The installer sets the pad, generator and transfer switch, plus the gas line or a propane tank the manual allows.
Inspection
The county inspects the work, and the installer commissions the unit and walks you through it.

On a 0.42 acre lot, a buried propane tank may fit: what it buys

Get my estimateNot every Osceola Hills home has natural gas. Check for a gas meter or a gas bill first; if you have gas, a Generac 26 kW draws about 188 cubic feet an hour at half load with no tank to refill. If you do not, propane decides how long you can run.
The District 10 manual allows one above-ground tank of no more than 120 gallons with approval, or an underground tank with no size stated. At half load on a 26 kW unit, filled to the usual 80%:
- 120 gallons above ground: about 47 hours.
- 250 gallons buried: about 4.0 days.
- 500 gallons buried: about 8.1 days.
At full load, the same unit burns about 87 gallons a day, so a large home running everything shortens those numbers fast. Load management stretches them.
A buried tank needs space. A fire marshal summary of NFPA 58 lists 10 feet from the building and a buildable property line, and the tank must stay out of easements. Soaring Eagle Preserve lots of about 0.42 acres are the likeliest in this area to have room. The installer and your propane company make the final call on site.
Then plan the refill. Butane-Propane News reported after Irma that Florida had little propane storage and that many bulk plants lacked power to pump. Start each season full, and keep oil for long runs: Generac changes oil every 100 hours in continuous use above 85 F, per its owner manual. See fuel runtime.
Heat and medical equipment for Osceola Hills households
For older residents, heat is the real danger of a long summer outage, whatever the size of the house. The CDC says people 65 and older are more prone to heat illness and advises air conditioning, with caretakers checking in at least twice a day. The National Weather Service lists a body temperature above 103 F and confusion among heat stroke signs that need 911.
Powered care is common in the county. HHS emPOWER data for October 2026 show 2,478 Sumter County Medicare beneficiaries on power-dependent devices and 577 on oxygen services. A home concentrator draws about 350 watts, and its battery often lasts only 3 to 4 hours at low settings, per a CDC study.
Know the limits of outside help:
- SECO Medically Necessary Service does not give priority during named-storm restoration.
- The Florida Department of Health in Sumter County runs the special needs registry. The state registry says signing up does not guarantee help and asks residents to plan for at least 72 hours on their own.
Put the concentrator, refrigerator for medicines and at least one air conditioning system on the generator's priority list, and keep a printed list of settings to check when power returns. Our medical equipment backup power guide has more.

Get my estimateCan my Soaring Eagle Preserve home use a buried propane tank?
Possibly. The District 10 manual allows underground tanks and states no size limit for them. Fire code sets the real limit: a fire marshal summary of NFPA 58 lists 10 feet from the building and a buildable property line, and the tank must stay out of easements. Lots of about 0.42 acres give the best odds. Your installer confirms it on site.
What size generator does a 3,586 square foot home need?
Square footage alone does not decide it. The number and size of air conditioning systems, a pool pump, an electric range and medical equipment do. A 5 ton compressor needs about 35.5 kVA for an instant at start. Load management often lets a 26 kW unit cover a large home; sometimes a liquid-cooled unit fits better. A load calculation settles it.
Can the generator face the preserve or Lake Deaton?
Usually, if the rear yard meets the District 10 rules: rear or side, 2 feet from every property line, out of view from the street, screening no taller than the unit, and exhaust pointed away from neighbors. Your installer also checks the manufacturer's clearances and keeps the unit out of any easement along the preserve.
Is natural gas available in Osceola Hills?
Some homes here may have it. Peoples Gas is the main gas utility in The Villages. A gas meter beside the house, or a monthly gas bill, is the quick tell. If you have gas, the generator can run from it. If not, propane is the fuel, with the tank limits in the District 10 manual.
Who approves and permits a generator in Osceola Hills?
First the District 10 Architectural Review Committee approves the location. Then Sumter County Building Services, which covers unincorporated Sumter County, issues the electrical permit and any gas permit and inspects the work. Your installer handles both filings and checks the right office for your address.
